River Side Fun / picnic places
Flight Cancelled ? Nepalgunj has some great single day picnic place with
abundant natural and scenic beauty. Just arrange vehicle or motorbike,
start in morning, enjoy the day and come back till dusk. The experience
will be great as the places are full of natural beauty and far far away
from concrete structure or plastic chaired eating houses and hence making
you feel in the arms of nature and only nature.
Karnali River

Karnali river is about 85 kms. about one and half hour drive from Nepalgunj
towards west on Mahendra Highway half way to Dhangadi. Famous for its
water current the river is wide enough. You can choose the sandy or pebbled
areas side of KArnali river to spread your mattress and spread yourself.
Now start feeling fresh winds which is disciplined enough to blow from
morning to mid-noon and amazingly silent after mid-day. Remember to take
your food and drinking water with you as you may feel uncomfortable to
find it there as hotels are not of tourist class there. Population of
Karnali area is countable on finger so you will feel calm environment
to relax your mind and mood. Just go to mid of river during witner or
summer when water level is low and you will be far from world. Just sit,
relax or enjoy whatever without disturbance. You can also enjoy fishing
there. On side of river near the road local ladies and girls may be found
either washing their clothes or fishing also.
On Karnali river the bridge is uniquely built. It is Said to be Asia's
only single pillar suspended bridge made by Kawasaki Heacy Industries,
Japan, well known in the world for making heavy structure and equipments.
The bridge is big enough as the length is 500 m. long and pillar height
is about 150 m. The bridge has double lane for vehicle and side-ways for
pedestrians
Babai river (Surkhet side)

Babai river meets on way to Surkhet north from Nepalgunj. It is only 45
kms from Nepalgunj and is just one hour drive from Nepalgunj. You have
to cross one hill range and Babai river is flowing between two hill ranges.
The road from Chisapani (25 kms from Nepalgunj) till Babai is beautiful
and full of scenic beauty. Take camera with you and you will need to stop
your vehicle after each half kilometres if fond of nature photography.
The river is beautifully flowing between two hills and one big grassland
towards east side makes it really a beautiful scene. The river's west
side is full of huge boulders to small stones making a great choice to
spread your mattress and open your food basket.
Also remember to take your drinking water and food items as 5,6 hotels
on east side of river may not be of tourist standard.
Babai river (Karnali side)

Babai river also meets on way to Karnali river from Nepalgunj. It is about
55 kms from Nepalgunj and is just one hour drive from Nepalgunj. Actually
you cannot sit for picnic at the river side on highway. It is protected
by Nepal Army. About 100 metres before you reach Babai a gravel road goes
down towards left side from highway as you approach Babai. Go on this
gravel road and going about 200 metres you can find beautiful river side
spots for enjoying. The area is peaceful and you can enjoy !. The road
from Chisapani (25 kms from Nepalgunj) till Babai is beautiful and full
of scenic beauty. Take camera with you and you will need to stop your
vehicle after each half kilometres if fond of nature photography.
WARNING: There are crocodiles and aligators
in this area of Babai river and often they are resting on riverside. Be
extra careful and remain at a safe distance from river.
